About USAP

UCLan Students Against Privatisation was set up in late 2012 following the University Board’s decision to fully change the corporate form of UCLan.

This will turn the University into a private company, a change which can:

– weaken the ability to hold management to democratic account

– make it easier for the University to sell off (publicly funded) assets to for-profit, private companies and private equity asset strippers

– bring us significantly closer to becoming a university run for profit, not education.

This happened without real student and staff consultation, and the UCU (the lecturers union) quickly formed a campaign against this change. Unison and Preston Trades Council have also formed opposition to the proposed change.

We support and work with future, current and graduate students, along with lecturers, non-academic staff, and members of the public – all whom could be affected by this massive change.
